APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda Embarks on Two-Week Vacation Ahead of 2027 Electoral Battle
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has commenced a two-week vacation outside Nigeria, following an intense first year marked by extensive party engagements, consultations, travels and strategic activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The vacation, according to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, is intended to provide the APC leader with an opportunity to rest, rejuvenate and reflect on the responsibilities confronting the ruling party as it prepares for another major electoral contest.
Since assuming office, Yilwatda has been at the centre of efforts to strengthen the APC’s internal structures and improve its electoral competitiveness. He has worked with members of the National Working Committee (NWC), state party leaders, governors, National Assembly members, elected officials and other stakeholders across the country.
The party said that within a relatively short period under his leadership, it successfully organised and concluded its National Convention, strengthened its internal structures and conducted primary elections at various levels in preparation for the 2027 elections.
These developments, the statement noted, have further consolidated the APC’s position as Nigeria’s leading political party and one of Africa’s largest political organisations.
However, the two-week absence is not expected to amount to a withdrawal from party affairs. Rather, the APC said the period would enable the National Chairman to temporarily step away from the demands of his daily schedule, recharge and sharpen his strategic focus for the electoral challenges ahead.
Yilwatda is also expected to use the vacation to reflect on the next phase of the party’s development and put the finishing touches to plans for the forthcoming National Working Committee Retreat.
The proposed retreat is expected to provide an opportunity for the NWC to assess the party’s journey so far, identify emerging challenges and develop strategies for the months leading up to the 2027 general elections.
The APC said the retreat would also help strengthen coordination among members of the NWC and enhance the party’s preparedness for what is expected to be a highly demanding electoral season.
According to the statement, the timing of Yilwatda’s vacation is particularly important given the sustained intensity of his activities since taking over the leadership of the party.
The party stressed that effective political leadership requires not only continuous engagement but also periods of reflection, strategic assessment and renewal.
Meanwhile, the APC National Working Committee will continue to oversee the affairs of the party during the National Chairman’s absence, in line with the party’s constitution and established procedures.
Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements with renewed energy and focus as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections and the consolidation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
