“As Long As I Live. I Will Say It That I Won The 2023 Presidential Election“ — Peter Obi Says.
…says “I’ll Concede 2027 Election If It Is Free, Fair and Credible“
Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he will concede defeat in the 2027 presidential election if the contest is free, fair and credible.
Obi made the declaration during an exclusive interview with Arise TV, where he was asked whether his desire to become Nigeria’s president would make him unwilling to accept the outcome of the election should he lose.
Responding, the former Anambra State governor said he was not desperate for power and would respect the decision of Nigerians, provided the electoral process reflected the genuine will of the people.
“If the election is free, fair and credible, I will. That’s it because it’s an election. It’s the people who will decide whom they want to serve them and I will respect the will of the people, that’s democracy.”
The interviewer, Ojy, however, reminded Obi that he did not concede after the 2023 presidential election, insisting at the time that he had won the election.
Asked whether he still maintained that position, Obi gave an emphatic response.
“I did.”
When Ojy pressed further, asking whether he was still maintaining that he won the 2023 presidential election, Obi again stood by his claim.
“I did and I maintain it.”
Pressed a third time on whether he believed he won the election, Obi said his position would remain unchanged for as long as he lived.
“As long as I live. I will say it that I won the 2023 Presidential Election, because those who conducted know what they did, they know about the glitch and the records and how it happened but like I said that is all in the past.”
Obi’s comments draw a clear distinction between his position on the 2023 election and his approach to the 2027 contest. While he continues to maintain that he won the last presidential election, he says he will accept a defeat in 2027 if Nigerians are allowed to freely choose their preferred candidate through a credible electoral process.
The statement comes as political parties and presidential hopefuls begin intensifying their campaigns and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with electoral credibility, transparency and the protection of voters’ mandates expected to remain major issues in the contest.
