Court Strikes Out Fake Presidential Agency DG’s Eight-Count Charge, Orders Fresh Arraignment in FCT High Court
The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed against Adeniyi Adeyemi, the 38-year-old alleged fake Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a request by the Federal Government to discontinue the proceedings.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar terminated the trial on Monday, October 12, 2026, after the prosecution informed the court that the Federal Government had reviewed the case and decided to pursue a fresh arraignment before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The development marks a significant turn in the prosecution of Adeyemi, who is accused of operating a purported government agency and engaging in alleged criminal activities involving forgery and conspiracy.
At Monday’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved an application seeking the termination of the existing charges on behalf of the Federal Government.
Oyedepo explained that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had reviewed the case file and the charge originally filed by the Inspector-General of Police and identified legal and procedural issues requiring a change in the court handling the matter.
According to the prosecution, some of the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi in connection with his purported operation of the PFIPC fall within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the FCT rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution further informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court, where Adeyemi would be arraigned anew without unnecessary delay.
On that basis, Oyedepo urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law, paving the way for the prosecution to continue the case before the appropriate court.
Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, leaving the court to consider the prosecution’s request without a contest from the defence.
Justice Umar subsequently granted the application and struck out the eight-count charge, effectively bringing the proceedings before the Federal High Court to an end.
Adeyemi, 38, had been facing trial alongside two other individuals identified only as Femi and Anu, whose surnames were not disclosed and who were said to be at large.
The defendants were accused of offences bordering on conspiracy and forgery in connection with the alleged activities surrounding the purported presidential intervention agency.
The case was registered as FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, with the charge entered by the Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation.
However, the termination of the Federal High Court proceedings does not, in itself, amount to an acquittal of Adeyemi on the allegations. The prosecution’s position is that the case will proceed through a fresh arraignment before the High Court of the FCT.
Attention is now expected to shift to the FCT High Court, where the new charge will be taken up and the allegations against Adeyemi will be addressed through the appropriate judicial process.
