Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu Denies 2027 Abia Governorship Ambition, Dismisses Viral Report as False
The Office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has firmly denied reports suggesting that he has declared interest in contesting the Abia State governorship in 2027.
In a press release dated December 14, 2025, the office described the circulating report attributed to an online platform, Native Reporters as false, misleading, and entirely baseless.
According to the statement, the Deputy Speaker has not, at any time, made a public or private declaration of intent to run for the Abia governorship.
The statement emphasized that Rt. Hon. Kalu remains fully committed to his constitutional responsibilities, noting that his current focus is on fulfilling his four-year mandate as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency and serving Nigerians with dedication and integrity.
The Deputy Speaker’s office also called on Native Reporters to retract the publication, urging the platform to uphold fundamental journalistic principles such as truth, accuracy, and fairness. It warned against the spread of misinformation and advised media practitioners to always verify facts before publication.
The press release further clarified that any future political decisions or ambitions of the Deputy Speaker would be officially communicated by his political family at the appropriate time, cautioning the public against relying on unverified reports circulating on social media.
The office concluded by reaffirming its commitment to responsible communication and transparency, while urging the media and the public to disregard the misleading report.
