Drama in Ashanti Region as Man Allegedly Makes Daring Escape with Ghana Police Armoured Vehicle from Busy Nkawie Market, Triggering High-Speed Security Chase Across Nkawie–Mim Route
A man identified as Ebenezer Frimpong has been arrested following a shocking incident in which he allegedly stole an armoured vehicle belonging to the Ghana Police Service in Nkawie Market, located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
According to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred under unusual circumstances at the bustling Nkawie Market when the driver of the police armoured vehicle briefly stepped away, leaving the engine running in the busy market area.
In what authorities described as a brazen act, Frimpong was said to have taken advantage of the brief lapse in attention. He allegedly entered the vehicle and drove off from the scene, setting off immediate alarm within security circles and among bystanders at the market.
The situation quickly escalated as law enforcement officers mobilised and launched a coordinated pursuit after receiving reports of the theft. Security teams reportedly tracked the stolen armoured vehicle along the Nkawie–Mim route in a rapidly unfolding operation.
After what officials described as a swift and well-coordinated response, Frimpong was eventually intercepted and arrested near Mim, bringing the dramatic movement of the police vehicle to an abrupt end.
“The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and the vehicle was recovered intact,” a security source said.
Authorities further confirmed that the armoured vehicle sustained no damage during the incident and has since been safely returned to police custody.
