GOV. ALEX OTTI RECONSTITUTES ABSUTH MANAGEMENT BOARD TO STRENGTHEN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY AND MEDICAL TRAINING IN ABIA, APPOINTS RT. HON. BENJAMIN KALU’S WIFE AS CHAIRMAN
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has approved the reconstitution of the Management Board of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), in accordance with the enabling law establishing the institution.
The move, according to the state government, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional governance, improve service delivery, and enhance the quality of medical training and healthcare services at the teaching hospital.
Notably, Governor Otti has appointed the wife of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Dr. Ezinne Chinyere Benjamin-Kalu, as Chairman of the reconstituted board.
The newly reconstituted board is expected to play a critical role in repositioning ABSUTH as a leading centre of excellence in healthcare delivery, research, and medical education.
The members of the reconstituted board are:
Dr. Ezinne Chinyere Benjamin-Kalu – Chairman
Prof. Nneka Chioma Okoronkwo – Chief Medical Director
Dr. Kelechi Omende – Member
Dr. Temple Nwosu – Member
Dr. Patrick Umezurike – Member
Prof. P. E. N. Onyemachi – Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee
Prof. Gazie Okpara – Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Senate Representative
Prof. Chuks Kamanu – Provost, College of Medical Sciences
Dr. Mrs. Ifeyinwa Blossom Uma Kalu – Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health
Mrs. Ihuoma Nwagbara – Director of Administration/Secretary to the Board
Dr. Odochi Ewurum – Representative, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA)
Governor Otti congratulated the Chairman and members of the board on their appointments and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by working diligently to reposition the institution.
He emphasized the need for commitment, professionalism, and innovation in driving the hospital’s transformation into a hub for quality healthcare delivery, cutting-edge research, and world-class medical training.
The appointments take immediate effect.
