Gov. Alex Otti to Formally Flag-Off Construction of Old Express, Uratta Roads in Aba on October 21
Abia State Governor, His Excellency, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, will on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, formally flag off the construction of the 3.95-kilometre Old Express Road and the 3.9-kilometre Uratta Road in Aba, as the state government advances its integrated infrastructure development programme.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, October 12, 2026, at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing pressmen on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Otti.
According to the Commissioner, the two road projects form part of the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ABSIID), a comprehensive infrastructure initiative designed to address longstanding infrastructural challenges across the state through modern, sustainable and scalable solutions.
Prince Kanu explained that construction work had already commenced on both roads ahead of the formal flag-off ceremony, demonstrating that implementation of the projects was underway before the official event.
The Old Express Road, measuring 3.95 kilometres, and the 3.9-kilometre Uratta Road are expected to improve road connectivity and accessibility within Aba, while supporting transportation, commercial activities and the movement of people and goods in the commercial hub.
The Commissioner further disclosed that additional road projects under the ABSIID programme would be formally flagged off in due course, signalling the continuation of the state government’s infrastructure development efforts.
The planned flag-off underscores the administration’s ongoing focus on road construction and rehabilitation as part of its broader strategy to improve connectivity, strengthen economic activities and address infrastructure deficits across
Abia State.
