Gov. Otti Strengthens Health and Environmental Governance with Strategic Appointments, Sets Stage for Formal Inauguration in Umuahia
The Abia State Government has taken another decisive step toward strengthening its health and environmental sectors, as Governor Alex Otti approves key appointments aimed at enhancing service delivery and driving sustainable development across the state.
Briefing journalists at the Government House in Umuahia on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, announced that the State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Otti, ratified the appointment of distinguished professionals into critical positions within the state’s public service architecture.
According to him, Professor Nneka Chioma Okoronkwo has been appointed as the new Chief Medical Director of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital, a move expected to reposition the institution for improved healthcare delivery, medical training, and research excellence. Her appointment signals the administration’s continued commitment to revitalizing the health sector through competent leadership and professional expertise.
In a similar vein, Dr. Nkiru Chidia Maduekwe has been named the Project Coordinator for the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) under the Ministry of Environment. This appointment underscores the government’s resolve to tackle pressing environmental challenges, particularly erosion and land degradation, while advancing sustainable environmental management practices across Abia State.
Prince Kanu further disclosed that both appointees will be formally inaugurated by Governor Alex Otti later this week. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to hold on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Umuahia, where the new officials are expected to officially assume their responsibilities.
