PDP Insists On November 15-16 National Convention In Ibadan

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that the November 15-16 National Convention of the party would go on as planned.

The position was made known in a statement released via the official 𝕏 account of the party on Friday.

The statement added that the PDP is ready to elect a new National Working Committee (NWC) and solidify its plans ahead of the crucial 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

The party vowed to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and take over power democratically in the 2027 polls.

“With just eight days until the landmark Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Elective Convention on November 15-16, 2025, the party is firing on all cylinders, ready to elect a dynamic new National Working Committee (NWC) and solidify its unbreakable unity as Nigeria’s premier opposition force gears up for a triumphant return in 2027.

“The historic #Ibadan2025 gathering, set to unfold at the fully refurbished Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, will draw over 3,000 delegates from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“This two-day spectacle is more than a leadership transition—it’s a bold declaration of renewal, reconciliation, and resilience, positioning the PDP to dismantle the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s grip on power and restore hope to millions of Nigerians weary of economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures,” the statement read.

Despite the divisions and ongoing crisis within the party, the PDP announced that it will continue with the convention on the strength of a pronouncement by Justice A. L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court.

The Eye Opener News recalls that the court had approved that the convention could go ahead hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja had ordered the convention to be placed on hold.

“On November 4, 2025, the Oyo State High Court, presided over by Justice A. L. Akintola, issued a resounding interim order clearing the path for the convention, mandating the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to monitor proceedings in full compliance with electoral laws.

“This pivotal ruling swiftly countered earlier attempts to derail the event, affirming the PDP’s constitutional rights and internal democracy.

“The National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC), chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has confirmed seamless preparations: delegate accreditation is advancing, aspirant screenings are complete, and logistics—including enhanced security, state-of-the-art facilities, and virtual streaming for nationwide engagement—are locked in,” the PDP added.
