Police Harassment: Edo Lady Narrates How Fear Is Driving Customers Away From Businesses in Benin City
A lady has raised concerns over the growing atmosphere of fear and insecurity allegedly caused by police brutality and harassment in Benin City, Edo State, saying the situation is negatively affecting businesses and the daily lives of residents.
According to the woman, the alleged frequent harassment of residents by police officers has created an environment where people are increasingly cautious about moving around the city, particularly at night. She lamented that business owners are now finding it increasingly difficult to attract customers, as many residents are reportedly afraid of being stopped, questioned or harassed while returning from their outings.

The woman further narrated a personal experience involving herself and a friend, saying the two of them were allegedly harassed by police officers while returning home after watching a movie.
According to her account, what was supposed to be an ordinary outing turned into an unpleasant encounter as they were stopped and subjected to police harassment on their way back.
She expressed concern that incidents of this nature could discourage residents from enjoying normal social activities and could further hurt businesses that depend on evening and nighttime patronage.
