Niger: Police arrest suspect for impersonation, attempted robbery

Four suspected kidnappers have been arrested by operatives of the Tactical Teams of the Ondo State Police Command in a forest within Owo-Ifon axis of the state.

The suspects were identified as Friday Monday, Ashimi Wahab, James Odina, Ibrahim Idris, and Prince Areeh.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspect were arrested inside Amurin Forest in the cause of an operation by the command to nab those responsible for the death of late Supol James Ogunleye.

Ayanlade added that the operatives were also in search of the late police officer’s service rifle during what he described as intensified operation.

“During the operation, the police team recovered one single-barrel gun loaded with a live cartridge from the suspects.

“The recovered firearm and the arrested suspects are currently in police custody for further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has directed that the investigation be expanded to uncover other members of the gang, as well as to trace and recover the service rifle of the slain officer,” he said.
