Shock and Praise as Advocate Hails Governor Alex Otti’s Transformation of ABSU Hostels After Years of Neglect

A Port Harcourt–based advocate has expressed deep astonishment over the transformation of the Abia State University (ABSU) hostels under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, contrasting it sharply with the poor state of the facilities during the tenure of former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.

Sharing his past experiences, the advocate recalled the harrowing condition of the hostels when his siblings studied at ABSU, describing them as unsafe and uninhabitable. In his reflection, he wrote:

“If truly all the photos here is ABSU, God will Bless your Governor.

“My Elder sister, Elder brother and our last born graduated from ABSU and lived in the hostel except our last born… The day I went to visit our first son, I was praying for day to break so I can run away… I got home and shouted Tufiakwaaaa.

“Na this kind of Governor we need, not Ikpeazu wey go snap Itu Calabar expressway say na new Abia road, built only front side of Government house.”

The comment has since gained traction among students, alumni, and the wider Abia community, with many echoing the sentiment that the current administration has breathed new life into infrastructure that was once a symbol of neglect.

Governor Otti’s intervention in the university hostels has been described as part of his broader vision to restore dignity, functionality, and pride in public facilities acros s the state.
