The immediate past Acting Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Abia State, Chief Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the growth and stability of the party by pledging full support to the newly elected state executive committee led by Peter Azubuike.
Speaking with journalists in Umuahia, Oti projected a tone of unity and continuity, emphasizing his readiness to collaborate closely with the new leadership to ensure they succeed in consolidating the party’s gains and expanding its influence across the state. He stressed that cooperation and collective effort remain indispensable for the party’s sustained progress.
According to him, his decision to stand firmly behind the new executives is rooted in his understanding of the dynamics of politics and leadership. He noted that experience and strategic guidance would play a crucial role in helping the new team navigate the complexities of party administration. He assured that he would make himself available to provide the necessary support required for them to thrive.
In a reflective tone, Oti acknowledged that his own tenure did not benefit from the same level of backing from his predecessor, Ceekay Igara. However, he made it clear that he has chosen to chart a different course by prioritizing peace, unity, and institutional stability through a seamless transition process.
“What I did not enjoy from my predecessor, I will make sure my successor enjoys. I worked for a peaceful transition, something I didn’t get,” he added.
Looking back on his time in office, Oti highlighted several milestones achieved under his leadership. These include extensive local government tours aimed at strengthening grassroots structures, robust party sensitization initiatives designed to stabilize and reposition the party, and the successful acquisition of a befitting state secretariat for the Labour Party in Abia.
He further pointed out that his administration played a significant role in facilitating the emergence of local government mayors under the party, describing it as a testament to the growing acceptance and strength of the Labour Party at the grassroots level. He attributed the successes recorded during his tenure to divine grace, while expressing gratitude for good health and the opportunity to oversee a peaceful transition.
On governance, Oti commended Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, for what he described as remarkable strides in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He noted that within a relatively short period, the administration has restored a sense of pride and dignity among the people of the state.
He encouraged the Governor to do, noting that those who were there before him, spent eight years without tangible progress, but disclosed that within a few years of the Governor, the state and its citizenry have regained their dignity.
Expressing optimism about the future, Oti projected a stronger and more influential Labour Party in Abia State, with the potential to extend its reach beyond state boundaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. He maintained confidence that the party’s growing acceptance would translate into broader national relevance.
Addressing internal party matters, he reiterated his trust in ongoing legal processes, expressing confidence that court rulings would continue to favour his faction. He also dismissed opposition voices within the party, signaling a firm belief in the legitimacy and direction of his political camp.
Oti concluded by declaring his readiness to continue serving the Labour Party in any higher capacity if called upon, reinforcing his enduring commitment to the party’s ideals an
d future trajectory.
