“Step Down for Us, We’ll Take Care of You If We Win Presidency“ — Rabiu Kwankwaso Tells Atiku Abubakar
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and support the party’s ticket.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Monday at his residence in Abuja while addressing members of the Fulani Farmers Association who visited him for a meeting.
The former Kano State governor urged Atiku to reconsider his presidential ambition, arguing that the opposition needed to unite behind a single platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso’s appeal comes amid growing political realignments and negotiations among opposition figures seeking to challenge the ruling establishment in the 2027 presidential contest.
The NDC chieftain also sought to reassure Atiku that stepping aside would not amount to the end of his political relevance, suggesting that the former vice-president would be adequately accommodated should the NDC emerge victorious at the polls.
