X User, Sparks Political Controversy With Remark About Peter Obi and Jesus Christ
A political comment shared on X has sparked reactions online after an X user, Somto Onuchukwu, made a provocative remark involving NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi and Jesus Christ.
Onuchukwu wrote:
“If Jesus Christ no introduce himself well, Peter Obi go win am for election“
The statement, written in Nigerian Pidgin, and said by Mama Pee quickly drew attention because of its reference to Peter Obi and its use of Jesus Christ in a political comparison.
In a follow-up post, the X user criticised what he described as the response of Peter Obi’s spokesperson to the previous controversial statement.
Peter Obi’s Spokesperson (their mama Pee)
@PeterObi, this is the second time she is saying this, and it’s because you condoned the first one.
She won’t do it with Kwankwaso’s religion.
The comments have added another layer to the ongoing political and social media debates surrounding Peter Obi, his supporters and critics, particularly over statements touching on religion, political personalities and the 2027 election.
Onuchukwu’s post appears to question what he sees as differing reactions to comments involving religious figures or beliefs associated with different political camps.
The remarks have also renewed discussion about the increasingly heated nature of political exchanges on social media, where supporters and opponents of major political figures frequently engage in sharp criticism, satire and provocative commentary.
While the post represents the views of the X user, it has generated attention largely because of its reference to both Peter Obi and religious sensitivities, subjects that have repeatedly triggered strong reactions in Nigeria’s highly charged
political environment.
