2027: “...But, We Know That Abia People Are Not Stupid, They Know What Is Good For Them” — Governor Otti Expresses Firm Confidence in Completing Eight-Year Mandate, Reaffirms Faith in God and People’s Support

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has expressed unwavering confidence in God regarding the successful completion of his eight-year tenure as the Chief Executive of Abia State, signaling both political assurance and a continued commitment to delivering on his administration’s mandate.
Governor Otti made this known on Tuesday at his office while receiving members of the Old Students Association of the Federal School of Arts and Science, Aba. The delegation paid him a courtesy visit and used the opportunity to express their strong belief that the Governor would secure re-election in 2027 to consolidate and complete the numerous developmental projects initiated under his leadership.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Otti maintained a calm yet confident stance on the political future, emphasizing focus over distraction and placing ultimate trust in the will of the people and divine providence.
According to the Governor, “About 2027, we don’t let it distract us, but you have a point. Primaries will happen within the month and then elections will be next year. But, we know that Abia people are not stupid.
“They know what is good for them. Because of that, we also know that it’s all about politics. And I’m not too sure that there is someone that would want to throw away what is good.
“This place is God’s own State. So, at the time that it pleased God, he makes changes here.
“And God doesn’t have unfinished business, or unfinished project.
“So, we are confident that we will complete the project that we have been asked to do by Abians.“
The Governor’s remarks underscored a blend of political realism, confidence in governance performance, and deep-rooted faith, all of which continue to shape the narrative of his administration.
Governor Otti also used the occasion to commend the alumni association for their proactive decision to renovate one of the hostels in their alma mater, describing the gesture as both commendable and impactful.
“I want to also thank you for your decision to fix one of the hostels.
“It’s a very laudable action that you have done, because you could have as well ignored. I’m sure, there are a lot of members of your school that may not even be coming for these meetings.
“So, I want to congratulate you and encourage you to continue, because your story cannot be told without this school.“ Governor Otti stated.
He further appreciated the association for choosing Abia State as the host for its bi-annual meeting, noting that such a decision reflects growing confidence in the state’s improved security and developmental strides.
In a significant highlight of the meeting, Governor Otti elaborated on ongoing efforts to revolutionize power supply across the state. He disclosed that his administration’s support for Professor Bart Nnaji’s Aba Power project was driven by the vision of achieving stable and sustainable electricity.
The Governor revealed that an agreement has been finalized for Abia State to acquire the Umuahia ring-fenced area of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), with payment processes already underway. This strategic move, he explained, would enable the extension of power from Aba to other parts of the state.
“So, there’s excess power. Of course, with an additional turbine, it will be able to generate 188 megawatts.
“So, the whole idea is to take excess power from Aba to the other eight local governments in Abia Central and Abia North.
“We’ve also set up the Abia States Electricity Regulatory Agency. And so right now, everything about regulation is within the State. So, we will be detached from the National electricity grid,“ Governor Otti said.
This development signals a bold step toward energy independence and improved industrial and economic productivity across Abia.
Earlier in his remarks, the President of the Old Students Association, Pharmacist Tony Ejieji, commended Governor Otti for what he described as visible and impactful developmental strides across the state.
He noted that the association chose to host its bi-annual meeting in Abia due to the prevailing peace and security, a shift from previous years when such gatherings were held in Lagos.
Ejieji highlighted the Governor’s infrastructural projects across Aba and Umuahia, including their visit to the Geometric Power Plant, expressing optimism about the state’s trajectory under Otti’s leadership. He further emphasized the importance of continuity, urging that progress should not be reversed.
He also reiterated the association’s commitment to giving back to their alma mater through the renovation of hostel facilities, aligning with broader efforts to support educational development.
The meeting attracted top government functionaries, alongside commissioners and senior appointees, reflecting the importance of the engagement and the administration’s openness to stakeholder collaboration.
