38-Year-Old Islamic Teacher Remanded Over Alleged Defilement of Two Minors During Quranic Classes
A 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, Adamawa State, over allegations that he sexually assaulted and defiled two female minors during Quranic recitation classes.
Sani, who teaches at an Islamic school in Numan Local Government Area of the state, is accused of assaulting the girls, aged eight and nine, after allegedly taking them to a secluded area behind the school’s classrooms.
The case reportedly came to light after the mother of one of the alleged victims lodged a complaint at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Numan on August 7, 2026.
According to the police, the woman alleged that the Islamic teacher committed the offences against the two minors while they were attending Quranic recitation classes.
The prosecuting police officer, ASP Zakka Musa, told the court that Sani allegedly lured the children away from the main school environment to a secluded location, where the alleged offences were committed.
The defendant was subsequently arraigned before Chief Magistrate’s Court I in Yola on charges bordering on indecent treatment, sexual assault and defilement.
When the charges were read and explained to him, Sani pleaded not guilty. Following his plea, the prosecution requested an adjournment to enable the police forward the case diary to the Adamawa State Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and further action.
The court granted the application and ordered that the 38-year-old teacher be remanded in custody pending further proceedings in the case.
The allegations have sparked concern over the safety and protection of children in learning environments, particularly places where parents entrust teachers and caregivers with the responsibility of educating and supervising minors. The case is expected to continue after the prosecution receives legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions.
