A 27-year-old Polish woman, Karolina Krzyżak, has tragically died in Bali after reportedly adhering to an extreme fruit-only diet for eight years. The young woman, who refused to consume any cooked or processed food, was found dead from exhaustion and severe malnutrition in her hotel room, weighing less than 23 kilograms at the time of her death.

According to reports, Karolina had spent years promoting a raw fruitarian lifestyle on social media, emphasizing her belief in the natural purity of uncooked fruits as the only true human diet. However, friends and hotel staff noted that she had become dangerously emaciated in the months leading up to her death, with visible signs of physical weakness and fatigue.

Images shared online show the once-vibrant woman appearing frail and severely underweight, surrounded by tropical vegetation in what appears to be her final days. The shocking visuals have ignited intense public debate over the growing influence of extreme wellness and diet trends.

Reactions to her death have poured in across social media, with more than 500 responses blending sympathy, disbelief, and criticism of the fruitarian movement. Many commenters described her passing as a devastating example of disordered eating masked as a lifestyle choice, warning that wellness culture can sometimes promote dangerously restrictive behaviors under the guise of health.

Health experts have long cautioned against restrictive diets that eliminate major food groups. Medical studies have linked prolonged fruit-only or raw vegan diets to severe nutritional deficiencies, including vitamin B12 deficiency, anemia, and bone loss. A peer-reviewed case study even documented reversible dementia resulting from a B12 deficiency caused by a similar diet.

While fruits play an essential role in a balanced diet, typically recommended at two to five servings per day. Nutritionists stress that exclusively consuming fruit deprives the body of essential proteins, fats, and micronutrients needed for organ function, bone health, and overall vitality.

Karolina Krzyżak’s death serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of taking wellness trends to dangerous extremes and underscores the importance of maintaining nutritional balance over ideology in the pursuit of health.
