ABIA ASSEMBLY RECEIVES PETITION OVER ALLEGED EXTORTION AND UNLAWFUL TERMINATION OF STUDENTSHIP AT DORITY INTERNATIONAL SECONDARY SCHOOL, ABA

The Abia State House of Assembly, during its plenary session today, deliberated on a petition brought before it by M. E. Azoroh and Co (Omenma Chambers), titled “Complaint of Insubordination and Unlawful Termination of the Studentship of Elsie Oluebubechukwu Kennedy Okadike Against Dority International Secondary School, Abayi Aba.”

The petition, which was presented by the member representing Osisioma Ngwa South State Constituency, Hon. Fyne Ahuama, detailed allegations of extortion and unfair treatment against the management of Dority International Secondary School, Abayi Aba.

According to the petitioners, their client, Miss Elsie Oluebubechukwu Kennedy Okadike, was reportedly expelled after protesting what was described as persistent extortion in the school. The student had allegedly raised concerns in May 2025 over the school’s demand that students, in addition to paying for sanitation and other fees, must bring tissue papers, detergents, liquid soaps, multiple brands of disinfectants, and other sundry cleaning materials.

Following her protest, the school authorities reportedly refused to allow her to continue her studies, prompting her legal representatives to seek legislative intervention.

After the petition was read, the Speaker directed that it be referred to the House Committee on Education for thorough investigation and a report to be submitted within two weeks for further legislative action.

In a related development, Hon. Fyne Ahuama also presented another petition seeking the Assembly’s intervention in a lingering boundary dispute between Osisioma Ngwa and Aba North Local Government Areas. The matter was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Security and Boundary Matters for investigation, with a two-week timeframe for reporting back to the House.

Meanwhile, the plenary session also had in attendance a delegation of students from the Faculty of Law, Abia State University, who visited the Assembly to observe the legislative proceedings as part of their academic exposure to parliamentary processes.

The session reflected the Assembly’s commitment to addressing citizens’ concerns, ensuring accountability in educational institutions, and fostering peaceful coexistence across local government boundaries in Abia State.
