Abia Government Completes Compensation for Billboard Collapse Victims in Aba

The Abia State Government has successfully completed compensation payments to victims injured in the recent billboard collapse incident in Aba.

The payments were made in full through the Abia State Structures for Signages and Advertising Agency (ABSSAA), even as efforts continue to recover the funds from the billboard owner responsible for the incident.

In a statement issued by the Managing Director of ABSSAA, Hon. Mrs. Victoria Dibumma Onwubiko, the agency expressed gratitude to the victims for their patience throughout the compensation process. She also commended the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), led by its Aba Zonal Chairman, Hon. Victor Azubuike, for maintaining peace and cooperation during the negotiations.

Appreciation was further extended to the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pst. (Dr.) Caleb Ajagba, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, for their intervention in ensuring smooth evacuations, coordination, and fair negotiations that led to the successful resolution of the matter.

According to Hon. Onwubiko, the agency has reinforced its safety and compliance operations across the state. She disclosed that a comprehensive audit of all high-rise billboards is currently underway to prevent similar incidents in the future.

She emphasized that the gesture reflects the commitment of Governor Alex Otti’s administration to prioritize the welfare, safety, and well-being of Abians at all times.
