The Abia State Government has successfully concluded compensation payments to victims injured in the recent billboard collapse incident in Aba, demonstrating its commitment to citizen welfare and safety.

The payments were made in full through the Abia State Structures for Signages and Advertising Agency (ABSSAA), while the process of recovering the funds from the billboard owner responsible for the incident is ongoing.

In a statement issued by the Managing Director of ABSSAA, Hon. Mrs. Victoria Dibumma Onwubiko, the agency expressed profound gratitude to the victims for their patience and understanding throughout the compensation process. She also commended the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), under the leadership of its Aba Zonal Chairman, Hon. Victor Azubuike, for maintaining peace, order, and cooperation during the period of negotiations.

Hon. Onwubiko further extended appreciation to the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pst. (Dr.) Caleb Ajagba, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, for their swift intervention and coordination, which ensured seamless evacuation, transparent deliberations, and a fair resolution of the matter.

She revealed that ABSSAA has intensified its safety and compliance measures across the state, with a comprehensive audit of all high-rise billboards currently underway to forestall similar occurrences in the future.

Hon. Onwubiko emphasized that the successful completion of compensation reflects Governor Alex Otti’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, security, and well-being of all Abians, reaffirming that under his leadership, accountability and public safety remain top priorities in the state’s governance agenda.
