PDP Crisis Deepens in Osun as Governor Ademola Adeleke Faces Uncertain Political Future Ahead of 2026 Governorship Election
…as Multiple Sources Disclose He May be Considering the Accord Party (AP) or the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as Possible Alternatives.
Thr Executive Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke may be on the verge of leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party grapples with deepening internal divisions ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Fresh indications from sources within the party suggest that the ongoing crisis has escalated to a point where presenting a credible governorship candidate next year may no longer be feasible. This growing uncertainty has now placed Governor Adeleke in a precarious position regarding his political future.
The governor became the center of discussions after PDP’s National Deputy Vice Chairman (Southwest), Kamorudeen Ajisafe, openly hinted that the party is too fractured to conduct a valid primary. Speaking on a radio programme monitored within the state, Ajisafe disclosed that the crisis has reached a stage where Adeleke may have no option but to explore alternative platforms if he intends to contest for a second term.
Ajisafe stressed that the situation in Osun is markedly different from other PDP-controlled states, particularly with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) setting December 15 as the deadline for party primaries. According to him, the PDP faces a real risk of missing this critical window entirely.
He added, “Let me tell you that if anything happens in Osun, it has to do with looking for a platform to contest. Where is the platform to contest now? It is absolutely known to the whole world that there is no way that the PDP would be able to nominate a candidate for the 2026 governorship election.”
His remarks have intensified speculation across Osun’s political circles. Multiple insiders suggest that Governor Adeleke may be considering the Accord Party or the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as possible alternatives. Some sources claim that discreet contacts have already been made with Accord’s leadership, while others maintain that discussions remain at an early stage as the governor evaluates the most secure route to retain his seat.
Despite the swirling rumours, Governor Adeleke has not publicly confirmed any plan to defect. Close allies, however, admit that the pressure is mounting, especially as the PDP crisis shows no immediate signs of resolution.
Political analysts say that the next few weeks will be crucial for the PDP in Osun, as the party risks losing its strongest political figure if internal disputes continue unchecked, potentially altering the state’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 election
