ICPC Tracks 31 Kaduna Projects, Recovers Over ₦2 Billion in Public Funds
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has intensified its campaign for accountability in the management of public resources, tracking 31 constituency and executive projects valued at about ₦2 billion across the three senatorial districts of Kaduna State.
The exercise, conducted under the commission’s Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative, also led to the recovery of ₦2,056,467,766.86 in public funds, marking a significant outcome in the anti-corruption agency’s efforts to ensure that funds meant for development projects are not diverted, mismanaged or improperly utilised.
The project tracking exercise was carried out across Kaduna South, Kaduna North and Kaduna Central Senatorial Districts by an ICPC team led by Chief Superintendent Haruna Aminu.
During the exercise, the team visited selected project locations to physically assess the level of implementation and determine whether the projects were being executed in accordance with approved plans and specifications.
The officers also examined whether the funds allocated for the various projects were being judiciously utilised and whether Nigerians were getting value for the public resources committed to the development initiatives.
The Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiative is designed to strengthen transparency and accountability in the implementation of government-funded projects across the country. Through direct inspection and monitoring, the ICPC seeks to ensure that projects approved for communities are not abandoned, poorly executed or handled in ways that fall short of required standards.
According to the commission, particular attention was paid to compliance with approved designs and specifications, the quality and level of project execution, value for money and accountability in the utilisation of public funds.
The projects inspected were spread across the three senatorial districts of the state, with officers conducting on-the-ground assessments to establish whether the projects reflected the resources allocated to them.
The recovery of more than ₦2 billion in public funds emerged as one of the major outcomes of the exercise, underlining the role of effective monitoring in protecting public resources and compelling accountability among those responsible for implementing government projects.
“The recovery represents a significant outcome of the initiative and demonstrates the importance of effective monitoring of constituency and executive projects to safeguard public resources,” the officer said.
The ICPC explained that the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to prevent the diversion and misuse of public funds while ensuring that government projects deliver their intended benefits to citizens and communities.
By taking its monitoring activities directly to project sites, the commission is seeking to close the gap between funds released on paper and actual projects delivered on the ground.
The Kaduna exercise further highlights the growing importance of independent oversight in the execution of constituency and executive projects, particularly at a time when public demand for transparency, quality infrastructure and responsible management of government funds continues to rise.
With the tracking of 31 projects and the recovery of ₦2,056,467,766.86, the ICPC says the initiative remains a key instrument in strengthening accountability and safeguarding resources meant for national and community development.
