Abia State has witnessed a digital uprising on Facebook as irate citizens lambasted former Abia State Finance Commissioner and current Federal Character Commission representative, Obinna Oriaku, dragging him “like a rag to the gutters” over what many described as a hypocritical, misleading and poorly grounded financial critique. The backlash erupted after he published his article titled “Abia’s Q3 2025 Financial Report: Unanswered Questions, Conflicting Figures and Rising Transparency Concerns By Obinna Oriaku,” a publication that instantly triggered anger rather than intellectual engagement.

Abians flooded his Facebook page to dismantle his claims and expose what they termed his lack of moral standing and historical credibility. One of the most scathing responses came from Chimereze Emereuwa, who questioned Oriaku’s authority to demand transparency when he allegedly failed to practice it while in office.

He wrote: “Obinna Oriaku those who go to equity go there with clean hands. I want to ask you again: you joined the APC in April 2020, and you have been rewarded with an appointment as a Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, a very important agency of the Federal Government.

“Can you kindly furnish us with a breakdown of the APC Federal Government Q1 Budget Implementation for 2025… I need the one from the government that employed you.”

Another Facebook user, Chinedu Xtova Ngaranwere, described Oriaku’s article as a deliberate political hit-job aimed at smearing a government that has embraced unprecedented transparency.

According to him: “Hahahaha! The irony of these whole fallacious postulations is that the author is very clear on his intentions to smear the records of the hardworking Government of Governor Alex Otti…”

He went further to accuse Oriaku of misrepresenting figures, saying: “Obinna also saw that there was ₦22B brought forward from the previous quarter yet he kept a straight face to aggregate the income of the state to the figure he had always imagined in his head.”

He reminded the public that Oriaku, who presided over four budget cycles between 2015 and 2019, never published income and expenditure details: “If he is not a hypocrite, I wonder who is.”

Another commenter, Nmecha Prosper, questioned the credibility of Oriaku’s analysis, stating: “This financial analysis would have been golden, assuming the immediate government you served was king in state funds & management… Alex Otti knowledge of finance & management supercede yours…”

Similarly, Ugoo Godswill ridiculed the technical quality of Oriaku’s financial write-up: “This not an account, rather a write-up put together to confuse someone that you don’t want him/her to understand what you are doing.”

A more damning verdict came from Nnamdi Igwe-nmaju, who accused Oriaku of wasting his opportunity to deliver transparency while in office.

He wrote: “Assuming as commissioner for finance you were this accountable and transparent our monies would have been used to develop Abia and make life easy for workers…” adding that Oriaku is “Na ur pocket u dey find. We know u very well sir. We can not be deceived.”

Several others joined the public backlash. Ndudim Emmanuel mocked him for abandoning his national duties, saying: “The man has left the assignment given to him at the national level and he is now doing the work of a finance commissioner in abia 😂😂.”

Okolo Faith Okoroafor wondered whether he reads the backlash that follows his publications: “Does Obinna Oriaku and some of his detractors go back to read the response of his followers who reads some of the trash he always come up with in his page?”

Rowland Madu accused him of being part of past misleading narratives about Abia’s finances, writing: “No. six man before told us that Abia receives 38 billion monthly from FAAC. Later it was actually around 14 billion…” He then challenged Oriaku to publish his own financial breakdown during his tenure: “give us breakdown of your monthly salary, bonuses and expenditure of your office when you were commissioner for finance.”

Benjamin Okereke went as far as dismissing his political relevance entirely, remarking: “Don’t worry, you will fizzle out like your brother Eke O Ako did… in 2027 you may succeed in printing posters for primary, as that will be the highest level you can reach…”

What was intended as a criticism of Governor Alex Otti’s administration has instead become a damning public referendum on Obinna Oriaku’s credibility, transparency record, and motive.

Facebook users across Abia State appear united in the belief that Oriaku, who oversaw opaque financial management for years lacks the moral authority to question an administration that has openly published receipts, expenditures, and financial reports. The public reaction has not only shredded the substance of his article but has also cast a harsh spotlight on his past, leaving Abians firmly rejecting what they describe as selective accountability and politically motivated financial mischief.
