NNAMDI KANU: THE POLITICS OF DECEIT AND UCHÉ AGUORU’S FAILED ATTEMPT TO REWRITE HISTORY — A POINT-TO-POINT EXPOSURE OF LIES AGAINST GOVERNOR ALEX OTTI

By any measure of public discourse, the recent article by Uché Aguoru represents one more failed attempt by the old political order to manufacture lies, distort facts, and weaponize the pain of Ndi Igbo for cheap political mileage. His rambling, contradictory essay attacking Governor Alex Chioma Otti is the clearest evidence yet that insecurity, misinformation, and desperation have become the last refuge of those who helplessly watch the rise of a new Abia.

Aguoru’s piece is not analysis. It is not advocacy. It is not even propaganda. It is a poorly disguised political hit job, driven by envy, held together by conjectures, and collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions. And the biggest tragedy? A man who claims to be a “public affairs analyst” could not even bother to understand the basic facts surrounding the incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu before rushing to his keyboard.

Aguoru’s central argument collapses on arrival. He blames Governor Otti for not freeing Nnamdi Kanu, yet in the same breath admits that the matter is a federal case handled entirely by the Presidency and the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation. The AGF is the only office constitutionally empowered to handle the prosecution. No governor in Nigeria, not even those from APC-controlled states has the legal authority to “free” someone in federal custody. Not Governor Francis Nwifuru, not Governor Hope Uzodimma. Not even Sen. Dave Umahi. But somehow, magically, in Aguoru’s imagination, Governor Alex Otti has powers above those of the Nigerian Constitution. This is ignorance masquerading as analysis.

Contrary to Aguoru’s false claims, Governor Otti has engaged President Bola Tinubu directly on the Nnamdi Kanu matter, a fact confirmed during public events and private meetings handled with utmost discretion. He has engaged the national security architecture on non-escalatory resolutions. Unlike politicians who use Kanu’s name to trend, Governor Otti understands the sensitivity of the matter. Responsible engagement is not done on camera.

Governor Otti has also coordinated with the South-East Governors Forum on regional approaches. South-East governors do not issue press releases every time they meet the President, a basic fact that Aguoru clearly ignores.

Governor Otti’s approach is strategic, high-level, sensitive, and diplomatic. And unlike Benjamin Kalu’s well-publicized “quiet diplomacy that is somehow always on video,” Governor Otti is not driven by the politics of selfies and press conferences.

Aguoru’s claim that Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, is Governor Otti’s personal lawyer and ally is not only false, it is laughably childish.

Fagbemi is a nationally renowned constitutional lawyer long before Dr. Alex Otti entered politics. His appointment came from President Bola Tinubu, not Governor Otti.

Fagbemi has never been Governor Otti’s counsel in any personal litigation. No evidence exists anywhere, but rather a lead counsel for Alex Otti (and the Labour Party) in the Abia State governorship election tribunal. This is not analysis. This is what happens when political agenda replaces basic intelligence.

Aguoru tries to create a false conflict between Governor Otti and Kalu, but here is the irony he hopes the public never notices: Benjamin Kalu is a ranking APC leader, while Alex Otti is from the Labour Party an opposition party for that matter. If Governor Otti wanted someone to blame for Nnamdi Kanu’s ordeal, Benjamin Kalu would not even make the list. The entire prosecution of Nnamdi Kanu arrest and, rendition, detention, ongoing trial and eventually life imprisonment was initiated under APC governments from 2015 to 2023. If Governor Otti wanted to “weaponize” anything, the easiest person to blame would be President Buhari, Malami, the APC structure, or federal security agencies under APC. But Governor Otti has never played that card. He is a responsible leader, not a political gossip writer like Aguoru who thrives on imaginary conflicts.

Aguoru calls PISEP “the solution” to insecurity, but the facts are clear: PISEP did not end military operations in the South-East. The operations reduced because of a strategic recalibration by the military high command and changing security priorities not because of any foundation project. PISEP produced no legislative bill addressing underlying security issues. Its non-kinetic “success” is not reflected in security statistics, as banditry, kidnappings, and criminal networks continued long after its launch.

PISEP is a PR-driven political foundation, not a policy instrument. To present it as a decisive security intervention is dishonest.

Aguoru claims Benjamin Kalu works “quietly,” yet he records every visit, livestreams every meeting, relentlessly pushes press releases, and announces every “engagement with the presidency” even when no results follow. Quiet diplomacy does not announce itself on camera, produce headlines, or require weekly media stunts. Kalu’s strategy is publicity, not policy. Optics, not outcomes. Buzz, not breakthroughs.

What truly unsettles the old order, including Aguoru, is not Nnamdi Kanu. It is the fact that Alex Otti has destroyed the political economy of propaganda in Abia. In 2 years, Governor Otti has rebuilt infrastructure abandoned for 24 years, cleaned Aba, restored dignity to civil servants, stabilized pension payments, reformed revenue leakages, and begun transforming Abia into a competitive state. These achievements threaten those whose political influence depended on keeping Abia backward. That is why they cling to Nnamdi Kanu’s pain for political oxygen. It is disgusting, shameful, opportunistic, and must be condemned.

A brief profile analysis exposes Aguoru’s true motivation: he has been a serial defender of failed PDP administrations in Abia for over a decade. His political patrons collapsed the state and left it rotten. He opposed Governor Otti before 2023. He has been desperately trying to regain relevance since Governor Otti’s victory. His writing is sponsored agitation, not honest advocacy. His article is simply the latest attempt to remain politically visible in a state that has moved on from his kind.

Governor Alex Chioma Otti has never politicized Nnamdi Kanu’s predicament. He has maintained consistency, sensitivity, diplomacy, and strategic engagement.

Benjamin Kalu, with all due respect, has turned the issue into a political brand, a PR tool, and a self-promotion mechanism. Writers like Uche Aguoru exploit the emotional vulnerability of the Igbo nation to sell lies. Abians are wiser. Ndi Igbo are wiser. The truth is clear. Alex Otti is delivering governance. Benjamin Kalu is delivering press releases. Uche Aguoru is delivering confusion.
