As the calendar opens its final chapter for the year, I warmly welcome all residents, commuters, and hardworking tricycle operators across Aba Zone into the blessed month of December, a month of joy, celebration, reflection, and renewed hope.

December is a season when our city comes alive with increased movement, booming business activities, and festive excitement. Yet, it is also a period that demands heightened caution, discipline, and collective responsibility, especially on our roads.

As Chairman of the Abia State Tricycle Operators Union (ASTOPU), Aba Zone, I urge every Keke rider to uphold the highest standards of conduct this Yuletide season. Let us obey traffic rules, maintain order at loading points, ride responsibly, and show courtesy to passengers and fellow road users. The image of our union is reflected in the behaviour of every operator, and we must continue to set the pace for discipline and excellence in Aba’s transport sector.

In line with the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, the Abia State Government has rolled out strengthened security measures to ensure this festive season remains safe, peaceful, and crime-free. Security agencies are fully mobilized, surveillance has been intensified, and Operation Crush is on high alert to curb any form of criminality across the state.

However, our safety is a collective duty. I strongly warn against the activities of criminals disguising as tricycle operators, the so-called “One Chance” syndicates who attempt to exploit innocent passengers, especially at night. These individuals are not members of ASTOPU and do not represent the values of our union.

To the good people of Aba:

1. Always ensure you board tricycles with ASTOPU stickers clearly displayed.

2. Take note of the identification number boldly printed on each sticker.

If you observe anything suspicious, a strange movement, questionable behaviour, or an unfamiliar tricycle without proper identification, report immediately to the nearest security agency or to union officials at any ASTOPU unit/loading point. Your vigilance could save a life.

This December, let us move with joy but also with wisdom. Let us celebrate but remain alert. Let us enjoy the season while ensuring Aba remains safe for all commuters, traders, residents, and visitors.

On behalf of the leadership and members of ASTOPU, Aba Zone, I wish every one of you a Merry Christmas in advance, a prosperous New Year ahead, and a December filled with peace, progress, and divine protection.

Ride safe. Stay vigilant. Together, we keep Aba secure.

Hon. Victor Azubuike,

Chairman, ASTOPU, Aba Zone
