NAFDAC Clarifies Indomie Vegetable Flavour Recall in France, Assures Nigerians of Product Safety
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified reports surrounding the recall of Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour by French consumer protection authorities, Rappel Conso, stressing that the affected product does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered for sale in the Nigerian market.
The clarification follows the recall in France over the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which could pose health risks to individuals with allergies or intolerances.
NAFDAC emphasized that the product involved in the French recall is entirely foreign and has no regulatory approval from the Agency.
According to NAFDAC, noodles are currently on the Federal Government’s Import Prohibition List, making their importation into Nigeria unlawful. This restriction, the Agency noted, significantly reduces the possibility of the recalled product entering the country through official channels.
As a precautionary regulatory step, NAFDAC has intensified nationwide surveillance and instructed all zonal directors and state coordinators to remain on high alert and immediately remove the product if found anywhere within their jurisdictions. The Agency’s Ports Inspection Directorate has also been placed on full alert to forestall any attempt to import the implicated product into Nigeria.
NAFDAC further reassured Nigerians that all Indomie instant noodles and other noodle brands approved for sale in the country are produced locally and only registered after meeting strict regulatory standards. These include full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and other food safety requirements designed to protect public health.
The Agency advised consumers to remain vigilant, avoid unregistered food products, and promptly report any suspected sale or distribution of the recalled Indomie Vegetable Flavour to the nearest NAFDAC office. Members of the public can also contact NAFDAC through its toll-free line, 0800-162-3322, or submit reports of adverse reactions via the Agency’s official e-reporting platforms.
NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that all food products available in Nigeria meet the highest safety and quality standards.
The statement was signed by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, PhD, FAS.
