EDC Opens Registration Portal for 2026 MCPE, BECE, GPT, Sets Deadlines for Schools
The Examinations Development Center (EDC) has announced the opening of its registration portal for the 2026 Mandatory Central Promotion Examination (MCPE) and the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), urging school administrators to commence the registration process without delay.
In a press release issued by the Director of the Examinations Development Center, Mrs. Kanu Ucheoma Peace, all Principals and Head Teachers of public and private schools across the state were informed that the online portal is now accessible for candidate registration.
According to the announcement, registration for the 2026 MCPE will close on Friday, 3rd April 2026, while registration for the 2026 BECE will end on Thursday, 30th April 2026.
The Director also disclosed that the General Placement Test (GPT) is scheduled to hold on 11th March 2026. Registration for both the GPT and the Primary School Leaving Assessment Test (PSLAT) will close on 17th February 2026.
Mrs. Kanu stated that candidates for the MCPE will be examined in four compulsory subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Igbo Language, and Civic Education.
She explained that all registrations must be carried out online through the official portal at www.abiaunifyportal.com.ng/administrator. Payments are to be made via Pay-Direct using each school’s ABSSIN Number. After payment, schools are required to print their receipts and submit them to the Examinations Development Center in Umuahia.
The Director further warned that the central portal will automatically close on 3rd April 2026, adding that any registration carried out after the deadline will attract a penalty.
She advised school heads to ensure early registration of candidates to avoid last-minute challenges and penalties.
