Abia Moves to Replicate CSS Farms Integrated Model as Governor Alex Otti Drives 500-Hectare Agro-Industrial Revolution Across Key Farm Estates
The Abia State Government has taken a decisive leap towards food security and agro-industrial transformation with concrete plans to establish a full-scale replica of CSS Farms’ integrated agricultural model within the state.
In a move that signals a new phase in Governor Alex Otti’s agricultural revolution agenda, a high-powered delegation from CSS Farms, Nasarawa State, led by Dr. Alao Eric, Consultant, and Dr. Victor Umunnakwe, arrived Abia on an official technical mission to assess government-owned farm estates and identify a suitable location for the proposed large-scale integrated farming project.
Following a strategic engagement with the top management team of the Abia State Ministry of Agriculture, the delegation commenced an extensive on-the-ground inspection of critical agricultural assets across the state.
The team conducted technical assessments at the Government farm estates in Ulonna North and Ulonna South, carefully evaluating soil profile, infrastructure readiness, accessibility, and expansion potential. The delegation also visited the Ministry’s new relocation site at Umudike, where further technical evaluations were carried out to determine its viability for hosting the CSS integrated farming model.
The inspection exercise is scheduled to continue across additional strategic locations, including Ukwankporo in Ohafia LGA, Abam in Arochukwu LGA, and Bende LGA, where the Ministry maintains another farm estate. The overarching objective is to secure a contiguous land mass of over 500 hectares capable of supporting a comprehensive integrated farming ecosystem.
The visiting team emphasized that their mission is rooted in a detailed technical evaluation of available land resources, facilities, and infrastructure to ensure that the replication of the CSS integrated agricultural system in Abia meets global best practices.
They expressed confidence that, working closely with the Abia State Government, the initiative would transition from planning to execution seamlessly. The delegation assured the government and people of Abia that the investment would be sustainable, impactful, and transformative, aligning with long-term agricultural industrialization goals.
The CSS model, known for combining crop production, livestock farming, processing, and training within a single ecosystem, is designed to create value across the entire agricultural chain from primary production to market-ready products.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, FCIB, reiterated the unwavering commitment of Governor Alex Otti to repositioning agriculture as a central pillar of Abia’s economic rebirth.
According to the Commissioner, the Governor has already approved the replication of CSS Farms as part of a strategic blueprint aimed at driving food sustainability, rural prosperity, and economic diversification.
He recalled the state’s earlier collaboration with CSS Farms, during which 298 Abia farmers were sponsored to Nasarawa State for intensive training in modern and integrated farming techniques. That initiative, he noted, laid the human capital foundation for the larger agro-industrial vision now unfolding.
Beyond training, the Abia State Government extended interest-free loans to the trained farmers, empowering them to scale their enterprises. These farmers have since begun cascading knowledge and technical expertise to others across the state, creating a multiplier effect that is steadily expanding the agricultural knowledge base.
The establishment of a CSS-integrated farm in Abia is projected to significantly increase local food production capacity, reduce dependence on external supply chains, and create substantial employment opportunities for youths and rural dwellers.
The project is also expected to catalyze agro-value chain development from processing and packaging to distribution and export potential thereby positioning Abia as a competitive agribusiness destination in Nigeria.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Ijeoma Adanma Aguwa, PhD, described Governor Otti as a visionary leader who is deliberate and urgent in transforming the agricultural landscape of the state. She emphasized that the administration views agriculture not merely as subsistence activity but as a sustainable engine for economic growth, rural wealth creation, and resilient food systems.
With land identification underway and technical evaluations in progress, the planned replication of CSS Farms represents more than a farming project. It embodies a strategic shift toward structured, mechanized, and commercially viable agriculture.
Through deliberate partnerships and data-driven planning, the Abia State Government is unlocking dormant agricultural assets and repositioning the sector as a cornerstone of its economic transformation agenda.
