₦4,000 Debt Turns Fatal in Ogun as Police Detain Hunter After Stepbrother Dies in Abule Tuntun Shooting
A domestic dispute over a modest ₦4,000 debt has ended in tragedy in Ogun State, with the police detaining a man, Lekan Lasisi, following the fatal shooting of his stepbrother in Abule Tuntun, Odeda Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on December 19, after a disagreement between Lasisi and the deceased escalated into violence.
According to reports, the two men had clashed repeatedly over the deceased’s failure to repay debts, an issue that Lasisi said had brought embarrassment and pressure on the family.
Trouble reportedly began earlier that day after the deceased returned from the market, where he had taken items to sell. As Lasisi made his way to the bus stop, one of his stepbrother’s creditors allegedly stopped him to complain that the debt had still not been settled. The amount involved was said to be ₦4,000.
Angered by what he described as constant harassment from creditors, Lasisi confronted his stepbrother on his return, questioning why he continued to accumulate debts and expose the family to ridicule. What started as a verbal confrontation soon degenerated into a physical altercation.
In an interrogation video posted online on December 29, 2025, Lasisi narrated his version of events, claiming the situation spiralled out of control when the deceased allegedly armed himself with a cutlass.
“I pulled out my rifle when he took a cutlass,” Lasisi remarked.
“I am a hunter. He is fond of drinking and exhibiting different attitudes that can cause trouble,” Lasisi explained.
Giving further details in the video, Lasisi said, “On the day of the incident, he took garri to the market, and we met at the expressway where we often board a vehicle. I met a woman who claimed that my brother owed her again. The money was ₦4,000.
“When my brother came back, I challenged him on why he would be owing debt and causing us shame. He got angry and started making trouble. He was the one who first brought out a cutlass, and I brought out a gun, but it accidentally discharged and hit him. I do not intend to kill him.”
Lasisi maintained that he had no intention of firing the weapon and that the gun discharged accidentally during the confrontation. Despite his claims, the Ogun State Police Command has taken him into custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
The tragic episode has since sparked public concern and debate online over the dangers of unresolved family disputes, access to firearms, and how minor financial disagreements can spiral into irreversible consequences.
