Gov. Otti Hails Labour Party National Leadership as Federal High Court Affirms Caretaker Committee
The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has congratulated the National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party following a Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that affirmed its leadership.
The court ruling upheld the authority of the National Caretaker Committee led by Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman as Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary, effectively putting to rest lingering disputes over the party’s national leadership.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Governor Otti described the judgment as a timely and reassuring development for the Labour Party, noting that it provides a critical opportunity for the restoration of peace, order, and unity within the party. He said the decision has paved the way for internal reorganisation and renewal, positioning the party as a stronger and more cohesive political platform.
The Governor expressed confidence that the affirmed leadership would use the moment to rebuild the party on democratic ideals, strengthen internal cohesion, and prepare it for future electoral contests.
According to him, the ruling offers a chance for the Labour Party to evolve into a formidable organisation capable of winning elections and delivering good governance at all levels.
Governor Otti urged the national leadership to seize the opportunity presented by the judgment to pursue inclusive and purposeful leadership anchored on justice, unity, and strict adherence to the party’s constitution and founding principles.
He also appealed to individuals and groups involved in multiple litigations against the party to respect the decision of the Federal High Court, noting that it aligns with earlier pronouncements of the Supreme Court.
The Governor encouraged aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation, assuring that forgiveness and proper reintegration await those willing to abide by the rule of law and work within the party framework.
Commending the judiciary for what he described as a sound and courageous judgment, Governor Otti thanked party faithful and supporters of democracy for standing by the Labour Party during a period of internal challenges. He reaffirmed his personal commitment to continue contributing positively to efforts aimed at deepening democracy, strengthening political institutions, and promoting peace and order across the country.
