Rivers State Monarch, Eze Prof. Christian Akani Hails Gov. Alex Otti as Visionary Leader, Warns Successor Will Face Huge Task
…as Monarch Visits Abia Governor, Pledges Solidarity and Support for Transformative Agenda
In a remarkable show of admiration and solidarity, the revered monarch of Rumuevuorlu community, Eze Professor Christian Akani of Obi/Akpor LGA, has lauded the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, declaring that his successor will face an enormous task to match the Governor’s transformative accomplishments.
The distinguished traditional ruler made the statement during a royal visit to Governor Otti at his office on Wednesday, March 4th, describing the Governor as a visionary leader who has redefined governance in Abia State.
Eze Professor Akani, who doubles as a renowned academic, emphasized the historic impact of Governor Otti’s administration, noting that the Governor’s achievements have elevated the profile of Abia State nationally and internationally.
“Some people may not understand the depth of my happiness. I am aware of the series of permutations that took place. Maybe some of you in Abia State may not know the extent to which the name of Abia State has gone because of Your Excellency,” Prof. Akani stated.
He continued, “One thing I saw in you is your doggedness, I see confidence and you had a vision and that vision has materialized. We know that whenever you leave this place, your successor will have a huge task to perform beyond what you have done.”
Prof. Akani affirmed his commitment to support the Governor, explaining that the success of Abia State is a shared responsibility.
“I need to support you. Because if you succeed, all of us have succeeded. If you fail, all of us have failed. Therefore, whatever thing you think any of us can do to support you, we are ready,” he offered.
The monarch also extended an invitation to Governor Otti to a program organized by his department at the University of Port Harcourt, requesting that the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy represent the Governor at the occasion.
Governor Otti, reflecting on the visit, warmly welcomed Prof. Akani and highlighted their enduring friendship that dates back more than forty years to their University days.
Recalling their academic encounters, Gov. Otti noted that Prof. Akani was known for his boldness and intellectual rigor, often engaging fellow students and lecturers in challenging debates.
Governor Otti also praised the department’s initiative to organize a remembrance event in honor of reggae legend Bob Marley, describing it as a “worthy initiative that reflects the department’s commitment to preserving the legacies of a man who used his God-given talent to promote freedom and justice.”
The Governor approved the request for the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy to attend on his behalf.
As a token of their enduring camaraderie, Eze Professor Akani presented Governor Otti with a framed photograph of the Governor and two of their colleagues from their NYSC orientation camp in 1988.
Governor Otti used the visit to underscore the importance of national unity, highlighting the peaceful and accommodating nature of Nigerians who co-exist across diverse regions. He noted that many Abians have thrived in other states, particularly in Rivers State, contributing significantly to economic and social development.
He added that perceived divisions among Nigerians are often politically amplified and do not reflect the actual harmony among citizens.
The Governor commended Eze Professor Akani for successfully balancing his academic responsibilities with the demands of traditional leadership, a task he described as particularly challenging when community obligations intersect with academic duties.
The visit was attended by key members of the Abia State Executive Council, including the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, the Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Chief Mathew Ekwuruibe, and other top government officials.
The historic meeting between Governor Otti and Eze Professor Akani reinforced the enduring bonds between traditional leadership and modern governance while showcasing a shared commitment to Abia State’s development.
