NAFDAC Unveils Med Safety App to Boost Fight Against Fake and Unsafe Medicines in Nigeria
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has introduced an upgraded digital reporting platform known as the Med Safety App as part of renewed efforts to curb the circulation of substandard, falsified, and potentially dangerous medicines across Nigeria.
The mobile-based system is designed to allow both healthcare professionals and members of the public to quickly report suspected fake drugs as well as adverse reactions to medications directly from their phones. The goal is to make drug safety monitoring faster, more efficient, and more responsive to emerging health risks.
With the new platform, users no longer need to rely on slow or complicated reporting channels. Instead, real-time submissions are sent directly to the agency for immediate review, investigation, and regulatory action where necessary.
Health experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that it could significantly strengthen early detection of unsafe drugs in circulation, especially in a market where counterfeit and substandard medicines continue to pose serious public health threats.
The agency is urging Nigerians to download the Med Safety App on Android and iOS devices and actively participate in safeguarding public health by reporting suspicious or harmful pharmaceutical products.
Authorities believe that wider public participation will not only improve drug surveillance but also reinforce regulatory enforcement, reduce health risks linked to unsafe medicines, and ensure that only quality-assured drugs remain in circulation nationwide.
