MFM Suspends Vigils Nationwide, Orders Early Closure of All Church Activities Over Security Concerns
The Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has announced the suspension of all vigils, overnight prayer meetings, and similar spiritual programmes across its branches nationwide, following growing concerns over insecurity in the country.
The directive was contained in an internal circular dated June 5, 2026, and signed by the Director of Administration, MFM International Headquarters and Nigeria, Temitope Olawale.
According to the circular, the ministry further mandated that all church programmes, services, meetings, and activities at every level must henceforth end not later than 8:00pm until further notice.
In a decisive move aimed at tightening security around worshippers, the church also ordered the immediate suspension of vigils and all overnight programmes across its branches. It directed that any branch requiring late-night spiritual gatherings should instead convert such events into evening prayer meetings, which must conclude on or before 8:00pm.
The ministry explained that the decision was taken strictly as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of members amid the prevailing security challenges in the country.
“These measures are purely precautionary and are intended to safeguard the lives and well-being of our members in the face of the current security situation in the country,” the memo read.
The directive further instructed all overseers, zonal pastors, branch pastors, groups, and departmental leaders to ensure strict compliance with the new guidelines.
In addition, Mega Regional Overseers were tasked with the responsibility of disseminating the information across all regions, zones, and branches under their supervision for immediate implementation.
The development reflects the increasing caution being adopted by religious organisations across Nigeria as insecurity concerns continue to prompt tighter safety protocols during worship gatherings and public religious activities.
