“The Certificate of Occupancy for My School, Which I Could Not Obtain While I Was in Power, Was Approved Under Governor Alex Otti’s Administration” — Ex-Abia Lawmaker, Apugo Faults APC Leadership, Credits Otti for Approving Long-Awaited Certificate of Occupancy

Former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, has commended the administration of Governor Alex Otti for approving the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for his privately owned school, revealing that repeated efforts to secure the document while he held public office were unsuccessful.

Apugo made the revelation on Friday July 3, 2026, when he received the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, and members of his campaign team during a political consultation at his country home in Nkata Ibeku, Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Reflecting on his experience, the former lawmaker cited the approval of his school’s Certificate of Occupancy as a practical demonstration of the responsiveness and efficiency of the current administration.

“The Certificate of Occupancy for my school, which I could not obtain while I was in power, was approved under Governor Alex Otti’s administration,” Apugo stated.

He explained that despite serving in government, he was unable to obtain the vital land document until Governor Otti assumed office, describing the development as evidence of a government committed to fairness, due process, and service delivery.

Apugo also took a swipe at the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, expressing disappointment over the way he was treated after the last House of Representatives election.

According to him, he was sidelined by the party despite his contributions, a development that has left him disillusioned with its leadership.

The former lawmaker further declared that he would not support any APC candidate seeking election into the National Assembly in the 2027 general elections, underscoring his dissatisfaction with the party’s internal leadership and direction.

His remarks came during a visit by Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, who appealed to him to join the Labour Party and support Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid.

The visit also featured appeals by the Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, and Labour Party chieftain, Prof. ACB Agbazuere, who both urged Apugo to align with the Labour Party, expressing confidence that his support would strengthen the party’s political structure in Ibeku and beyond ahead of the 2027 general elections.
