“To defeat Tinubu” — Galadima Claims Fayemi Coordinates Opposition Group Ahead Of 2027
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has alleged that former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, is coordinating a group of opposition politicians working to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Galadima made the claim on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also expressed confidence that the NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would emerge victorious if the 2027 election is conducted freely and fairly.
According to the NDC chieftain, Fayemi is working alongside six other opposition figures as part of a broader effort aimed at challenging Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
Galadima said the group was being coordinated by the former Ekiti governor and claimed that their discussions and activities were already yielding progress ahead of the election.
“I also want to say publicly that I am one of the group of opposition candidates, seven of us, under the coordination of Governor Fayemi Kayode, working on that, and we are making progress,” he said.
When asked specifically what the group was working towards, Galadima gave a direct response, saying, “To defeat Tinubu.”
The allegation has since generated reactions, particularly because of the political significance of Fayemi, a former governor and former chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, whose alleged involvement in an opposition coordination effort could attract considerable attention within the political space.
However, the claim has not been independently established in the information provided, and it has also prompted a call for clarification from Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Olayinka shared a clip of Galadima’s television appearance on his 𝕏 handle and indicated that he would await a response from Fayemi before accepting the claim.
He wrote: “I will choose not to believe this except Dr Kayode Fayemi fails to refute it today.”
The development comes amid increasing political realignments and discussions among opposition figures as parties and political actors position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Meanwhile, businessman and an Obidient movement Chieftain, Isaac Fayose has also recently alleged that five governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are secretly supporting the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.
Fayose’s allegation, like Galadima’s claim concerning Fayemi, has added another layer to ongoing speculation over possible political movements, alliances and realignments ahead of the next presidential contest.
With the 2027 election approaching, claims of behind-the-scenes negotiations and cross-party engagements are expected to remain a major feature of Nigeria’s political discourse, particularly as opposition parties seek to consolidate their structures and challenge the ruling party at the presidential level.
