Abia State Assembly Meets Police Leadership Over Alleged Killing of Resident by Officers
The Abia State House of Assembly has engaged the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force in the state following the brutal killing of an Abia resident, Mr. Abraham Reuben Okwukwa, allegedly by police officers.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ihuoma Emeruwa, disclosed during plenary that lawmakers held discussions with the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, as well as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Umuikaa Police Station during an Executive Session convened in response to the tragic incident.
The engagement, according to the Speaker, formed part of the Assembly’s efforts to seek accountability and address the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased.
Earlier, the day’s plenary resumed at 1:38 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi, member representing Bende South State Constituency.
The House also adopted the Votes and Proceedings of its plenary session held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, affirming them as a true record and approving them as its official working document for legislative business.
