“This Is Your Government, and Because It Is Your Government, We Will Continue to Invest in Your Future Through Education, Infrastructure and Other People-Oriented Projects” — Governor Alex Otti Says as Umunneochi Gives Him Grand Civic Reception, Endorses His Second-Term Bid, and Hails His Transformational Leadership
The people of Umunneochi Local Government Area on Friday, July 24, 2026, accorded the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, a grand civic reception at Peace Secondary School, Amuda, Isuochi, in appreciation of the transformative impact of his administration in the area and across Abia State.
The colourful gathering, which attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, party faithful, and residents from across the Local Government Area, also provided an opportunity for the people to reaffirm their unwavering support for Governor Otti’s second-term bid in 2027.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance, equitable development, and sustained transformation across every part of Abia State.
The Governor declared that Abia had permanently left behind the era of stagnation and poor governance, stressing that the State would continue to move from glory to glory and would never return to its ignominious past.
He emphasized that his administration remains committed to ensuring balanced development across all communities, irrespective of location. He assured the people that the long-awaited Mmam Bridge, which was included in the 2026 budget following earlier engagements with Umunneochi stakeholders, would be constructed alongside other critical infrastructure projects.
Governor Otti further explained that strategic investments in free and quality education, road infrastructure, healthcare, and other people-centered initiatives remain central to his administration’s vision of improving the quality of life of Abians and driving sustainable development.
“This is your government, and because it is your government, we will continue to invest in your future through education, infrastructure and other people-oriented projects,“ Governor Otti said.
The Governor also announced plans to extend the State’s Electric Bus Green Shuttle transportation system to Umunneochi following the arrival of more than 20 new electric buses.
He disclosed that new routes connecting Umuahia–Umunneochi and Umuahia–Okigwe–Uturu–ABSU would soon commence operations to improve connectivity and ease transportation for residents and students.
Governor Otti commended the people for supporting government efforts to protect lives and property, noting that community collaboration remains essential in the fight against crime and insecurity.
“Anyone with criminal intentions should either repent or leave because we will smoke criminals out. Together, we shall continue to keep Abia safe for everyone,“ Governor Otti warned.
In their goodwill messages, the Labour Party Abia North Senatorial candidate, Chief David Ogba Onuoha; Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Rep. Amobi Ogah; Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Mathias Umeh; and Elder statesman and former Minister of Education and Health, Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike, commended Governor Otti for the visible development his administration has brought to Abia State, particularly in healthcare, road infrastructure, education, and the restoration of public confidence in government.
They maintained that Governor Otti has demonstrated good governance, exceptional leadership, and the capacity to deliver quality service, adding that he deserves another term in office in 2027 to consolidate on the remarkable progress already achieved.
In separate remarks, the Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Chaka Chukwumerije; Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Ngozi Azode; Mayor of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi; Mr. Uche Okoroafor; and the representative of the Northern community in Umuchieze, Alhaji Buba Abdullahi, described Governor Otti as a grassroots-oriented and people-centered leader.
They thanked the Governor for his numerous interventions in Umunneochi, including tackling insecurity, approving the construction of a brand-new General Hospital, retrofitting 19 Primary Healthcare Centres, 12 of which are already fully functional and providing services to residents as well as executing road projects and improving educational infrastructure.
The speakers assured the Governor of their unwavering support for his reelection in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the Northern community, Alhaji Buba Abdullahi said Umunneochi has become a peaceful home for all residents following the Governor’s decisive actions against insecurity. He described Governor Otti as a leader who does not merely make promises but fulfils them through tangible development.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the formal reception of new members into the Labour Party and the presentation of the party flag by Governor Alex Otti and the State Chairman of the Labour Party.
The new members were led by the 2023 PDP Deputy Governorship candidate in Abia State, Dr. Jasper Uche, in a development that further strengthened the Labour Party’s growing support base in the area.
The well-attended event drew many distinguished personalities from across Abia State, underscoring the broad support enjoyed by Governor Otti and his administration as it continues to pursue its agenda of rebu
