“What We Need to Do Now Is to Ensure That It Doesn’t Happen Again” — Abia State Gov. Alex Otti Commends Geometric Power for Restoring Electricity in Aba
The Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has commended the management of Geometric Power for restoring electricity supply to Aba and its environs following several days of blackout.
Governor Otti gave the commendation on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, when he received the management of Geometric Power, led by its Chairman, Prof. Barth Nnaji, at his office.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the Governor and the management of the power company to review the recent disruption in electricity supply and discuss measures to prevent a recurrence, particularly as reliable electricity remains critical to the economic transformation and industrial development of Aba.
Acknowledging the difficulties the prolonged outage caused residents, businesses and industries across Aba, Governor Otti said the restoration of power was a welcome development, while appreciating the efforts of Geometric Power in resolving the situation.
“I must also put on record our appreciation for the resolution of the blackout that lasted several days. At some point, we were running around, and then we got the message that power had been restored.
“We want to congratulate and thank you,” Governor Otti said.
The Governor noted that the experience also underscored how significantly the people of Aba have become accustomed to reliable electricity under his administration, stressing that even a few hours without power now generates strong reactions from residents.
“It’s interesting that when power goes out for hours in Aba, people are screaming because they have gotten used to constant electricity,” Governor Otti stated.
Governor Otti, however, urged Geometric Power to look beyond the immediate restoration and strengthen its systems to ensure that a prolonged power interruption does not happen again.
He specifically called for the development of multiple sources of gas supply, alongside adequate contingency and backup arrangements, to protect electricity generation from disruptions in the gas supply chain.
“What we need to do now is to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. So, we need to make it permanent, whatever it takes,” Governor Otti said.
The Governor’s position reflects the growing importance of dependable electricity supply to Aba, a major commercial and industrial hub whose businesses rely heavily on stable power for production, manufacturing, trading and other economic activities.
Since the restoration of electricity supply through Geometric Power, the administration has continued to emphasise the need to consolidate the gains and create an environment where businesses can operate with greater certainty and reduced dependence on alternative power sources.
Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to continued collaboration with Geometric Power and other relevant stakeholders to sustain reliable electricity supply and further support industrialisation in Enyimba City.
The meeting was attended by top officials of Geometric Power as well as members of the Abia State Executive Council, including the Honourable Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Engr. Ikechukwu Monday, who participated virtually.
The engagement further highlighted the shared responsibility between the state government and power-sector stakeholders to ensure that the progress recorded in Aba’s electricity supply is sustained and translated into broader economic growth for residents an
d businesses across the city.
