“I Warned Peter Obi Not to Join ADC, But He Didn’t Listen” — Datti Baba-Ahmed Reveals
The 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has revealed that he warned former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Baba-Ahmed said he had personally cautioned Obi about the decision but claimed that his advice was ignored. He also disclosed that he had told Obi that proceeding with the move would mark the last time he would visit him.
“I warned Peter Obi not to join ADC, but he didn’t listen. I told him that would be the last time I will come there. I don’t like people that contradict themselves.”
His comments come amid heightened political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures and groups continue efforts to build a formidable political platform capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obi, who was Baba-Ahmed’s running mate on the Labour Party ticket in the 2023 presidential election, has remained a major figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics following the strong support he received during the last election.
Baba-Ahmed’s latest remarks highlight the political differences that have emerged between the two former running mates, particularly over political strategy and alliances ahead of 2027.
As political consultations and negotiations intensify, the disagreement between the two men is likely to generate further reactions, particularly among supporters who closely followed their joint campaign during the 2023 presidential election.
