“Only God and Tinubu Know What Will Happen” — Galadima Raises Fresh Concerns Over 2027 Election
…says ’Peter Obi’ll Be Victorious, Tinubu May Announce Himself Winner’
A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Buba Galadima, has raised fresh concerns about the conduct of the 2027 presidential election, alleging that President Bola Tinubu could potentially declare himself winner if the electoral process is not free, fair and transparent.
Galadima made the remarks while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the NDC presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, the opposition’s preparations for the 2027 election and his concerns about the neutrality of the electoral process.
Recent reports also confirm that the NDC is moving toward inaugurating its Presidential Campaign Council, with Obi and Kwankwaso given roles in selecting key campaign officials.
The NDC chieftain expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of Obi and Kwankwaso, arguing that the duo would prevail if Nigerians are allowed to freely choose their preferred candidates and the votes are transparently counted.
According to Galadima: “Peter Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair, and transparent, unless somebody decides to use the machinery of government to take it away from them.
“One of the presidential candidates organized a national poll recently, Peter Obi and Kwankwaso came out early leading in four zones of the six zones of the country, namely North Central, Southeast, South South, and Southwest
“Bola Tinubu came a distant third with no zone accredited to him but if we are doing the ‘kalo Kalo’ kind of politics in Nigeria, he would announce himself having met the INEC Chairman and some prominent Nigerians in France, and we don’t know what they are doing.”
Galadima’s comments come amid intensified political activity ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition parties and political figures increasingly focused on building alliances and consolidating support across the country.
The relationship between Obi and Kwankwaso has also become a major feature of the emerging opposition landscape. The two politicians formally joined the NDC in May 2026, with Obi becoming the party’s presidential candidate and Kwankwaso his running mate.
Channels Television has separately reported that the opposition coalition has been grappling with questions surrounding leadership, candidate selection and how competing political interests can be brought together ahead of the election.
Beyond his assessment of the political contest, Galadima also directed criticism at the reported endorsement of President Tinubu by a group of 600 professors in Kaduna.
He cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against appointing members of the group to supervise the 2027 election, arguing that their public endorsement of a candidate could raise questions about their neutrality.
“Having assembled 600 professors in Kaduna to declare support for him, it’s preparatory to what we consider a fraud in this election and we are saying that none of those 600 professors should be recruited to superintend in the election because they have already taken sides by declaring their support for a candidate in this election,” he added.
Galadima’s allegations remain his political assessment and have not, in themselves, established that the 2027 election will be manipulated. The election is still ahead, while questions about the neutrality of electoral officials, the conduct of political actors and the credibility of the process remain matters that will be tested by the actual conduct of the election.
His remarks nonetheless add another layer to the growing political debate surrounding the 2027 contest, particularly as the NDC seeks to consolidate the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket and build structures capable of competing nationally.
Meanwhile, Galadima has continued to publicly defend the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance. In a separate recent interview, he described the proposed ticket as a “healing ticket” and argued that its supporters believe the partnership can address major national challenges.
