Kenyan University Jokingly Warns Students Against Supporting Man United Over Mental Health Concerns
A Kenyan university has sparked amusement among football fans after jokingly advising students to reconsider their support for English Premier League giants Manchester United, citing the emotional stress associated with the club’s disappointing performances.
The humorous advisory was shared by KCA University alongside a promotional post announcing its January 2027 admission intake, with the institution encouraging students to share the message with their colleagues.
Dated Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the tongue-in-cheek notice was presented as an unofficial university memo urging students to reconsider supporting Manchester United and wearing the club’s jersey.
The university humorously suggested that supporting the Red Devils could expose students to unnecessary emotional distress, weekend disappointments and Monday-morning heartbreaks, particularly as they struggled to balance their football loyalties with demanding academic responsibilities.
According to the university, students already had enough pressure to contend with, including continuous assessment tests, assignments, graduation clearance procedures and academic deadlines, without adding the emotional roller coaster of following Manchester United to their daily struggles.
The institution’s playful warning appeared to tap into the frustration experienced by the club’s supporters, who have endured periods of inconsistent performances and disappointing results in recent seasons.
Rather than continue subjecting themselves to the emotional uncertainty associated with the English club, students were humorously encouraged to redirect their loyalty towards KCA University’s own sporting teams.
The university confidently suggested that its teams performed better than Manchester United, adding another layer of banter to the light-hearted message.
Although the advisory was clearly intended as a joke rather than an official mental health directive, it has highlighted the passionate relationship between football supporters and their clubs, where victories can inspire celebration while defeats can leave fans frustrated for days.
For Manchester United supporters among the university’s students, however, abandoning their beloved club may prove easier said than done, regardless of how many academic deadlines await them.
The playful intervention has also demonstrated how universities can use humour and popular sporting rivalries to engage students and promote their institutions while connecting with the everyday experiences of young people.
