Abia Expands Agricultural Innovation Drive, Distributes 2,040 Birds Across 17 LGAs
Abia State Government has continued to strengthen its agricultural development initiatives across the 17 Local Government Areas, with the Local Government Agricultural Innovation Programme recording steady progress in poultry production and other agricultural value chains.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, September 21, 2026, while briefing journalists at Government House, Umuahia, on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to the Commissioner, participating local governments under the ongoing Poultry Innovation Programme have recently received about 2,040 birds, marking another step in the administration’s efforts to promote local agricultural production and create sustainable economic opportunities at the grassroots.
Prince Kanu further explained that other agricultural value chains being implemented under the programme were undergoing continuous monitoring to ensure improved productivity, effective management and long-term sustainability.
He also revealed that several local governments had commenced the harvesting of caballero peppers cultivated through the agricultural initiative, indicating growing results from the government’s efforts to encourage food production and strengthen agricultural activities across the state.
