ABIA FLAGS OFF 2026 ANPA MEDICAL MISSION: FREE 1,500 CONSULTATIONS, 100 SPECIALISED SURGERIES, AND US-BASED EXPERT CARE TO BENEFIT RESIDENTS
Abia State is set to witness another major leap in accessible and high-quality healthcare delivery as the 2026 edition of the Abia ANPA Medical Mission officially kicks off, bringing with it a wave of hope, healing, and life-changing medical interventions for thousands of residents across the state.
The Commissioner informed that the 2026 version of the Abia ANPA Medical Mission will officially commence on, tomorrow Tuesday, April 14th 2026.
The Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Kanu, broke the cheering news on Monday at Government House Umuahia while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti. His announcement set the tone for what is expected to be one of the most impactful health outreach programmes in the state this year.
Providing further details on the scope and structure of the mission, Prince Kanu highlighted the scale and strategic planning behind the initiative, which is designed to reach a wide range of beneficiaries across different medical needs and specialties.
“The opening ceremony is scheduled to hold at the Michael Okpara Auditorium by 10 am, and the target for this year’s mission is 1,500 consultations and 100 specialised surgeries.
“The consultations and surgeries will be performed at the Aba General Hospital, while the eye care patients will be attended to at Abia Specialist and Diagnostic Centre, here in Umuahia.
“And issues of sexuality and reproductive health will be attended to at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba,“ Prince Kanu stated.
In his contribution, the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche, underscored the significance of the programme, describing it as a rare opportunity that brings world-class medical expertise directly to the doorstep of Abians. He emphasized that the initiative would drastically reduce the burden on residents who would otherwise seek expensive medical care abroad.
Prof. Uche thanked Governor Alex Otti for attracting ANPA to Abia for the second time in two years, noting that such a feat is a testament to the Governor’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to transforming the health sector.
He enjoined Abians to leverage the opportunity by turning out in large numbers to access the free, high-quality medical services being offered, stressing that the presence of top-tier medical professionals from the United States marks a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare advancement.
“I would like to thank you for attracting ANPA, the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas, for the second time in just two years. It has never happened before.
“Usually ANPA would go to one state and then it would take several years before they would even talk about returning.
“But it’s because of the leadership, the political will, and the exemplary commitment of His Excellency to the health sector that ANPA, initially thinking of going to Imo, will go to Imo and Abia states. I think His Excellency deserves commendation for that.
“We want to enjoin Ndi Abia to avail themselves of this rare opportunity to have themselves treated.
“Because what we have done is to bring scarce medical skills from the United States into Abia,“ Prof. Uche concluded.
With the convergence of international medical expertise, strategic healthcare planning, and strong political will, the 2026 Abia ANPA Medical Mission stands as a bold reaffirmation of the state government’s resolve to prioritize the health and well-being of its people while positioning Abia as a growing hub for qual
ity medical care in Nigeria.
