Abia Government, Federal Ministry of Housing Set for FHA Estate Groundbreaking in Umuahia
The Abia State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Housing, has announced plans for the official groundbreaking ceremony of the proposed Federal Housing Authority (FHA) Housing Estate in Umuahia, marking a significant step in the state’s drive to expand access to affordable housing.
According to a press release issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the landmark project is aimed at enhancing urban development, improving living standards, and fostering sustainable community growth across Abia State.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the project site located in Umuahia North, along Ubani–Uzuakoli Road by Dawis School.
The event is expected to attract a wide array of dignitaries, including representatives of the Federal Government, top officials of the Abia State Government, development partners, traditional rulers, community leaders, and members of the public, all of whom will gather to witness what has been described as a historic milestone in the state’s housing and infrastructure development agenda.
The government noted that the housing estate project is designed not only to address housing deficits but also to promote inclusive development and improve socio-economic conditions for residents.
Residents of Umuahia North and surrounding communities have been encouraged to attend the ceremony and participate in what officials describe as a transformative initiative aimed at boosting housing accessibility in the state.
The statement further emphasized that the groundbreaking ceremony underscores the government’s commitment to delivering people-oriented projects with lasting impact on the welfare of Abians.
Invited guests have been advised to be seated by 10:30 a.m. ahead of the commencement of the event.
