Abia Labour Party Women Unveil 2027 Strategy, Rally Grassroots Leaders Across 17 LGAs
The women wing of the Labour Party in Abia State has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections, holding its inaugural strategic meeting aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilization, expanding women’s participation in politics, and consolidating support for Governor Alex Chioma Otti and other Labour Party candidates.
The high-level strategy session, convened at the Labour Party State Secretariat in Umuahia by the State Women Leader, Hon. Elizabeth Udo Kalu, brought together Deputy Women Leaders, Hon. Akachi Jacob (Abia Central), Hon. Stephanie Nneoma Alilionwu (Abia North), and Hon. Lilian Obi (Abia South), alongside Women Leaders from all 17 Local Government Areas of the state.
The meeting witnessed impressive attendance, with delegates representing every part of Abia State, from Umunneochi to Ukwa West, including the Isiala Ngwa South Labour Party Women Leader, Hon. Chief Mrs. Veronica Orih.
The gathering served as an interactive forum where local government women leaders presented progress reports on activities within their respective constituencies while outlining strategies for expanding the party’s grassroots presence ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Participants unanimously advocated for greater involvement of women leaders in grassroots political structures, insisting that increased participation would strengthen the party’s reach and improve community engagement. They also reaffirmed their readiness to deliver victory for the Labour Party in the 2027 elections, while calling for stronger institutional support for women-focused programmes and activities.
The atmosphere was further energized as the women celebrated the achievements of Governor Alex Otti’s administration with songs of appreciation, commending what they described as the transformational impact of his leadership across the state.
They equally applauded the Wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Priscilla Chidinma Otti for her humanitarian initiatives and continued support for women across Abia State.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Women Leaders assured members of an inclusive leadership style that would carry every local government along. They challenged the women to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts to secure the re-election of Governor Otti and ensure electoral victories for all Labour Party candidates in the 2027 general elections.
Beyond political mobilization, the deputy leaders urged women to embrace economic empowerment through skills acquisition and the establishment of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), stressing that financial independence remains essential for sustainable political participation and personal development.
They noted that women have been among the greatest beneficiaries of Governor Otti’s developmental policies, citing the administration’s extensive road infrastructure projects, which have improved the movement of agricultural produce and commercial goods for female farmers and traders across the state.
The leaders also praised the ongoing rehabilitation and revitalization of primary healthcare centres, describing the interventions as major improvements that have enhanced healthcare delivery and improved the welfare of women and families throughout Abia.
Also present at the meeting were prominent members of the Labour Party State Working Committee, including the Deputy Chairman, Apostle Ibe Nkeiruka Eucharia, the State Treasurer, Hon. Joy Ngozi Anyanwu, and the Assistant Secretary, Hon. Nkiruka Olivia Ukaonu.
The party executives encouraged women leaders to move beyond passive political participation by taking active roles in decision-making processes and grassroots organization within their local government areas. They emphasized that sustained grassroots engagement would be critical to securing a decisive victory for the Labour Party in the 2027 elections.
Delivering her keynote address, State Women Leader, Hon. Elizabeth Udo Kalu urged women across the state to remain proactive, insisting that active participation is the pathway to securing greater representation in leadership positions and elective offices.
She assured members that her leadership would remain committed to due process, transparency, and the protection of the rights and interests of all women leaders within the party.
Hon. Kalu further pledged that information and directives from the state leadership would always be communicated promptly and transparently to ensure effective coordination across all levels of the party.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration, she urged Local Government Women Leaders to work closely with Ward Women Leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen the Labour Party’s grassroots network.
Looking ahead to the annual August Meeting, Hon. Kalu assured members that Labour Party women would be prominently represented, while encouraging leaders to cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders in their respective LGAs to ensure a productive and impactful tenure.
