ABIA STATE EARNS WORLD BANK APPROVAL TO BENEFIT FROM $250 MILLION HEALTH SECURITY GRANT TARGETED AT STRENGTHENING HEALTH SECURITY ACROSS NIGERIA
Abia State has recorded a major breakthrough on the international stage as it successfully secures clearance from the World Bank to benefit from a $250 million grant targeted at strengthening health security across Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing transformation of its healthcare system.
The cheering development was made public on Monday at the Government House in Umuahia by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Kanu, during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Addressing journalists, the Commissioner highlighted that the approval did not come by chance but is a direct result of the sweeping reforms being aggressively implemented in the state’s health sector under the current administration.
According to him, the strategic overhaul of healthcare infrastructure, policy direction, and service delivery standards has positioned Abia as one of the few states deemed qualified to access the highly competitive global health intervention fund.
“Abia state government has been cleared by the World Bank to benefit from a 250 million Dollars grant on health security in the country.
“The ongoing reforms of the government in the health sector help to qualify Abia state as one of the beneficiary states of the grant,“ Prince Kanu stated.
The grant is expected to significantly boost the state’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to public health emergencies, while also strengthening healthcare delivery systems across urban and rural communities. Observers note that this development further reinforces confidence in the Otti administration’s commitment to building a resilient and people-centered healthcare system.
With this latest achievement, Abia State continues to gain recognition as a rising model for effective governance and strategic reform, particularly in critical sectors that directly impact the wellbeing of
its citizens.
