Abia State Govt Intensifies Statewide Road Infrastructure Drive as Direct Labour Works Span 51 Locations, Completes Key Road Projects
The Abia State Government has significantly ramped up its infrastructure development efforts, with direct labour works currently ongoing in no fewer than 51 locations across the State, signaling a deliberate push to improve road connectivity and ease transportation challenges in both urban and rural communities.
This development was made known by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a press briefing held on Monday, where he addressed journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Providing further insight into the administration’s progress, Prince Kanu revealed that the government has already recorded notable milestones with the successful completion of critical road projects. Among the completed works is the maintenance and asphalt overlay of the 3.65-kilometre Abiriba Road, stretching from Orieagwa Junction to Amaogudu Roundabout. This vital corridor is expected to enhance mobility, boost commercial activities, and improve the daily commute for residents and businesses operating within the area.
In addition, the 1.12-kilometre Okpuala–Umuala–Nbawsi Road has also been completed, further underscoring the government’s commitment to ensuring that communities previously plagued by poor road conditions are now better integrated into the State’s economic framework.
The ongoing direct labour approach adopted by the State Government continues to yield visible results, allowing for faster project execution, cost efficiency, and greater accountability in the delivery of infrastructure projects.
With works simultaneously progressing across 51 different locations, the administration is reinforcing its resolve to bridge infrastructural gaps and sustain the momentum of development across Abia State.
