Abia State Govt Unveils Weeklong Programme for Governor Alex Otti’s 3rd Anniversary Celebration

The Abia State Government has officially unveiled a comprehensive programme of events to commemorate the third anniversary of the administration of Alex Otti, highlighting what it described as three years of transformational leadership, infrastructural renewal, and people-oriented governance across the state.
In a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government disclosed that the weeklong celebration would showcase the achievements of the present administration in critical sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, technology, youth empowerment, water resources, and grassroots development.
According to the government, the anniversary celebration will feature project commissioning ceremonies, strategic project flag-offs, stakeholder engagements, children’s activities, technology grants, sporting events, thanksgiving service, anniversary lecture, and a grand state banquet.
The activities are also expected to provide a platform for ministries, departments, and agencies to present scorecards of achievements recorded within the last three years under Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
The celebration will commence on Sunday, May 24, 2026, with an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service scheduled to hold at the Event Centre by Okpara Square, opposite Bistro, by 12 noon.
Other activities lined up for the opening day include the flag-off of the Ecumenical Centre and the Ubakala Water Scheme, projects aimed at strengthening social infrastructure and improving access to potable water.
Activities for Monday, May 25, will include a Special Anniversary Executive Council Meeting alongside the presentation of scorecards by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The government will also unveil the NKATA Technology Enabling Business Grant initiative aimed at empowering technology-driven businesses and innovators across the state.
Several road and healthcare projects are also scheduled for commissioning, including the Umuikama–Okpuala Nvosi Road and the Umunkpeyi-Amaiyi-Okpokiri-Umuehim Road in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
The Government Cottage Hospital, Umuihie, will equally be commissioned, while the Okpuala Ngwa General Hospital project will be officially flagged off.
Tuesday, May 26, is expected to witness one of the largest project commissioning exercises of the anniversary celebration as Governor Alex Otti embarks on the commissioning of multiple roads and strategic infrastructure projects, particularly within Aba and its environs.
Among the projects slated for commissioning are the Aro Amano–Eke Aro Road, Adaelu Road, Geometric Road, Afule Road, Assemblies of God Church Road, Nwogu Ajagba Street, Nwala Street, Sacred Heart Street, Elizabeth Avenue, Brewery Road, Etche Road, Mosque Road, and Crystal Park Road in Aba.
The administration will also officially flag off the 7-Up–Umuchichi Link Road as well as the first phase of the Aba Ring Road project, regarded as one of the major infrastructure initiatives of the government.
The day will further feature visits to destitute homes and orphanages by the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti.
On Wednesday, May 27, the government will celebrate Children’s Day activities alongside the Abia Soccer Fest.
The administration will also commission the Umuahia Bus Terminal and several strategic roads including Onuimo to Tower Road, Opet to Ahia Eke Road, Ahia Eke to Bende Road, Library Avenue, Ibiam Street, and Club Road.
The anniversary lecture scheduled for Thursday, May 28, will take place at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia.
The day’s activities will also include a reception in Isuikwuato Local Government Area and the commissioning of several healthcare and road projects across the Abia North axis.
Projects billed for commissioning include Eluoma Road, the NYSC Orientation Camp Internal Roads in Igbere, Chris Uche Road, Okafia Primary Healthcare Centre, Umuisi PHC, and Section III of the Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Abiriba–Ohafia Road.
The administration will further commission the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the Abiriba Ring Road as well as the Obilohia–Amune–Ovim Umuakwu Road in Isuikwuato LGA.
Also scheduled is the flag-off of the Abia Specialist Hospital, Umunnato, alongside the commissioning of the Nunya–Eluama Road in Isuikwuato.
The weeklong celebration will climax on Friday, May 29, with an Anniversary Parade scheduled for 10:00am and a State Banquet by 5:00pm.
The Abia State Government called on Ndi Abia, development partners, political leaders, traditional rulers, youths, women groups, captains of industry, members of the diplomatic community, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the celebration.
The government noted that the third anniversary reflects the administration’s commitment to rebuilding Abia State through transparency, infrastructural renewal, economic growth, and people-centered governance, while consolidating what it described as the emergence of a New Abia.
