Abia State House of Assembly Resumes Plenary, Confirms Two New Commissioners After Annual Recess

The Abia State House of Assembly on Thursday, September 19, 2025, resumed plenary after its annual recess, which began on July 29, 2025. The return to legislative business marked a significant moment as the House immediately moved to consider key matters of governance.

The plenary session commenced at exactly 12:28 p.m. with an opening prayer led by Hon. Dennis Rolland Chinwendu, representing Isialangwa South State Constituency. Thereafter, the lawmakers adopted the votes and proceedings of the last plenary held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, which was declared correct and subsequently adopted as a working document.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, warmly welcomed his colleagues back to the chamber, charging them to remain committed to their constitutional duties as the Assembly re-engages with pressing state matters.

One of the highlights of the day was the reading of a letter from the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, requesting the screening and confirmation of two commissioner nominees: 

1. Mr. Chiemela Charles Uzoije 

2. Dr. (Mrs.) Salome Nkemakolam Obiukwu.

The nominees were screened during an executive session of the Assembly, after which the House unanimously confirmed their appointments as commissioners in the state executive council.

The confirmation further strengthens Governor Otti’s cabinet as his administration continues to drive reforms aimed at repositioning Abia State on the path of good governance, accountability, and sustainable development.
